easily accessible to the public, including historians, genealogists, novice

Howard University's Relationship with the Freedmen's Bureau
Howard University's relationship
with the Bureau is direct and continues today. The University is named for
Civil War hero General Oliver O. Howard, the Bureau's first commissioner
and the school's third president.
